ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder)
ADHD stands for Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, which is a neurodevelopmental disorder that affects both children and adults. Often diagnosed in children as it gets noticed in school. Sometimes it gets missed out during childhood and presents in adulthood when performance demands increase in life.
The symptoms of ADHD can vary in severity and presentation, but some common signs of inattention include difficulty paying attention to details, forgetfulness, losing things, difficulty in organisation and difficulty following through on tasks or instructions. Hyperactivity symptoms can include fidgeting, restlessness and difficulty sitting still, while impulsivity symptoms can include interrupting others, difficulty waiting their turn, and acting without thinking.
While the exact causes of ADHD are not fully understood, research suggests that it may be a combination of genetic and environmental factors that affect the development and functioning of certain areas of the brain, particularly those involved in attention, impulse control, and executive function.
